Are you a L.O.S.E.R?

My name is Reynel Martinez and I'm an alcoholic...not yet anyways. I'm 18 and just graduated highschool with aspirations to become an artist this includes singer, songwriter, screenwriter, and director. I spend my days locked up inside getting ideas. Chances are no one will read this for a long time so it's basically just me here. Unless of course people read but dont reply. Right now is an interesting time in my life. I wake up and banality waits for me. Whether it be watching movies, talking to best friends, listening to music or even masturbating. I still dont have a license nor a car for that matter so this is my cage so to speak with my only escape being the world wide web or the world of entertainment. The sad thing is I dont consider myself a loser by any means neccesary nor do I want anyones pity or attention. Well maybe just a little attention...I'm writing a screenplay now called [censor]. Well I wouldn't say writing more like visioning in my head an reenacting scenes around my house. One of the characters will have a monologue about what L.O.S.E.R. means. This character coincidentally will be played by me seeing as it's an independent feature.

What is a L.O.S.E.R?

Today many of my graduating classes of 2004 have become L.O.S.E.R.'s They cant cope with the vastness of time and deal with the moments in our life where we are bored. I mean who can blame my generation? We've been fooled into thinking that having sex and going to clubs is considered having a life and if were missing out on these things we need to get a life. To many times we hear people defend there existence by what job they have who they fuck and how much money they make. I dont believe this bullshit. Neither should any of you. Everyone is unhappy no matter what. Other's just find better ways of distracting themselves. Does this mean we should kill ourselves? Not really.Life is much better when you lose all sanity. It's having the guts to regain it that's the hard part. It's like losing a sneaker and walking around in public as if your wearing two perfectly normal shoes hiding the foot that is bare. I say fuck it just remove the other shoe and walk around barefoot. In a mad world it is only the mad who are sane.

What's a L.O.S.E.R? My ex best friend Robert Pinon.

It stands for Ladder Otherwise Stairway Eventually Required.

Robert decided he had his heart set on going to Full Sail. A film school. He left high school in 2003. A year later he became a L.O.S.E.R and went back to his old job at Winn Dixie bagging groceries. He claims he couldnt afford the tuition. Even though he could qualify for a loan he decided it best to go climb that LADDER or STAIRWAY to the top. You know work his way up . He cant always be a bag boy right? The longer he works there job oppurtunites come up with higher pay and eventually he'll become Supervisor or some such shit until he finds a position on the CORPORATE LADDER where he is happy. How sad for Robert. So many kids like him believe that a Ladder otherwise Stairway is required to get where you want to be in life. You have to pay your dues right? Wrong. I believe in Elevators and Escalators.

The advent of reality television is an excellent elevator. Almost every show today requires men and women competing and getting judged to win something. Ultimate Film Fanatic,American Idol,The Apprentice,Survivor blah blah blah. To me these shows are Elevators. We know what an Elevator is right? It lifts us up or takes us down with no hassle at all. If one wanted to be a singer the L.O.S.E.R way would be to start a band get some jam sessions make a couple singles and perform at clubs or other events until eventually you are discovered by a talent scout or agent. This could take years. Many years. Then you finally get a single lets have Destiny's Child as our example. You got this group of four young black girls. They are managed by Beyonce's father and Mother. They bust their ass for many years doing this here and that there. Then one day they finally get noticed and enter a studio for a single. "No No No No No" I believe it was. The single is a smash you do the whole tour thing from TRL to Leno to where ever and then you work on your album.

You've climb up the ladder or stairway and you've made it now that your album is Number 1 on the Billboards. Now comes the daunting task of staying Number 1.

Today theres no need to go through all that bullshit by going on shows like American Idol. William Hung is an example. (The boy can't even sing!) He was a no one he went on American idol and got his 15 minutes. If he can get a record deal then anyone who wants it bad enough and believes in their ablities can get one. Even if you dont wow the judges wow the audience. Thats who holds the power anyway. THE VIEWERS...THE PEOPLE! Fuck the judges. 3 cunts wont pay for that 3 million dollar home. But 3 million viewers can. Look at Hilary Duff. Personally the girl is a cookie cutter nothing but she used her Disney channel cred to work a fanbase and get what she needed a CAREER. In life you can either sell or be sold. My advice is to just start work on your career. Start writing those Grammy hits NOW...Write those Finding Nemo's and Toy Story's now while your young. It is always the young who revitalize something because they have a hunger and a need. I mean we all love Steven Spielberg but he's too old now to do work like he did when he made Raiders or E.T. with age comes wisdom and less risk.

I'm not saying you wont have to work at what you do. I'm saying now's the perfect time to use the MEDIA instead of have them USE YOU. Reality Tv is a craze that will soon die off. For film makers right now theres Project Greenlight Bravo and Film school on IFC which is reality tv that follows young directors. We all know these shows are cheaper to make than great shows like Seinfeld or Buffy. It's up to you to ride this Elevator to get your foot in the door and pitch your stories. Now while I may sound like a dreamer and the odds of getting on a show like this are slim to none. It's not impossible. Blair Witch was basically a bunch of kids running around the woods. But we all still saw the movie. I think the problem we have is people think they can copy the success of a movie instead of just do their thing. [censor] is MY thing. It's original new sport and full of honesty which is lacking in films. It also caters to the lowest common denominator with good racing scenes. Only time will tell on if it gets distributed.
